9.13 Look-alike words: עִם, “with”, or עַם “people”

These two words frequently take pronouns. It could be easy to get them confused. As with את, the trick is to pay close attention to the vowel under the ע.

עִם, WITH, will always have \(I\)-Hireq, whereas עַם, PEOPLE, will always have \(A\)-Patach

  • With Me (1CS): עִמִּי
  • My People (1CS): עַמִּי
  • With them (3MP): עִמָּם
  • Their people (3MP): עַמָּם
