15.3 The Imperfect Always has a Preformative
Imperfect preformatives are an easy way to distinguish a Perfect verb from an Imperfect verb
- All stems have the same set of preformatives
- י for 3ms, 3mp
- א for 1cs
- נ for 1cp
- תּ for everywhere else (3fs ,3fp, 2ms, 2fs, 2mp, 2fp)
In our shorthand code, when we say \(Pre =\) יִקְ, the י is a placeholder for any of the above Imperfect Preformatives.
