Parsing Codes
- Constantly writing the full parsing descriptions, such as “Qal Imperfect, Second Person, Masculine Plural” would become tedious
- Therefore, many Hebrew grammarians use what is called “parsing code”
- Unfortunately, the terminology for morphology is not standardized
- We will be using a commonly accepted shorthand used by several scholars in the field
- As mentioned, the parsing code for the previous example would be QI2mp
